SSB Training Camp
“Planning your Exceptional Experience”
On Saturday and Sunday September 12 and 13 at Ehden Country Club, the newly appointed Senior Secretariat Boards of Global Classrooms Lebanese American University Model United Nations (GC LAU MUN) and Lebanese American University Model Arab League (LAU MAL) programs were gathered by the Outreach and Civil Engagement (OCE) unit to plan an exceptional experience for this year’s participating delegates under the supervision of the Program Director, Prof. Elie Samia and the Program Coordinator, Ms. Ghina Harb.
This weekend’s aim was to finalize preparations for all teams in terms of required material for all the programs’ sections, from registration, to inauguration, to training sessions, to final conference, and to closing ceremonies. Everything was made to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of this year’s program from all aspects ahead of time.
Each Director and Assistant director meticulously chose the criteria of acceptance to their team with the preparation of interview questions and training camp tasks and activities to assure the delegates a qualified and efficient secretariat at their service.
Then, the different teams (Public Information, Public Relation, School Relations, Logistics and Operations, and Training and Educational Development) updated their databases, organized the classes and prepared the inauguration ceremony and training sessions.
The next day, the SSB continued their hard work on the training material, classroom items, training session themes, and finding guest speakers for the advisors’ sessions. They then received a word by the Program Director of GC LAU MUN/LAU MAL and AVP for OCE, Prof. Elie Samia, accompanied by Mr. Troy Wolf, UNA-USA Director of Education
GC LAU MUN and LAU MAL are the strongest leadership youth programs in Lebanon and the Middle East, with LAU being their official holder in the Middle East, since 2005 and 2011 respectively.
The programs educate students from all over the country on diplomacy, public speaking, negotiation, conflict resolution, amongst other skills. At the end of the program, the delegates step into the shoes of ambassadors in the United Nations and the Arab League respectively and take the committees’ negotiation tables to discuss current topics, during a two-day final conference. The conference for the LAU MUN is on March 19 and 20, 2015. The conference for the LAU MAL is on March 12 and 13, 2015.
This weekend is the first ever Senior Secretariat Board Workshop Weekend to be held and has only strengthened the program as every aspect of it was planned and reviewed by our SSB student leaders, under the direct supervision of our coordinator Ms. Ghina Harb and in the direction of our Director’s word and values, Prof. Elie Samia.
